Michael Arbaugh, chief designer of Ford interiors, describes center console space as "oceanfront property" - already fully populated, with more tenants trying to move in every year. Speaking to the Automotive Press Association in Detroit, Arbaugh said one tenant he'd like to evict is the CD player because it's dead weight for audio Luddites.



Ok, so he didn't say that exactly. But Arbaugh believes they're out of fashion with people under 30, and that growing lack of interest means they occupy space that could be better employed. CD players also add weight that has to be countered somewhere else in the march to meet CAFE regulations, an endeavor with nearly aerospace tolerances anymore.



The CD-less car is just talk at the moment, but there's no doubt it's coming. More and more computers are being sold without optical drives, and as it goes in the tech world so it shall go in the car-tech world. If we could just get carmakers to properly integrate connections for other PMPs that can play lossless codecs and don't mutilate the music, we wouldn't mind at all.

Recentemente, a Panasonic deu início ao festival Tokyo Hotaru, no Japão, fazendo descer pelo rio Sumida cerca de 100.000 lâmpadas EVERLED, imitando os pirilampos e prestando assim homenagem a uma antiga tradição japonesa.

Consciente do impacto ambiental, a Panasonic minimizou a sua pegada de carbono, uma vez que as lâmpadas funcionam a energia solar, e no final do evento foram recolhidas por uma enorme rede.

Localizado na pequena vila de Harads, perto do rio Lule na Suécia e a cerca de 60 km ao sul do Círculo Polar Ártico, este hotel proporciona a experiência única de ficar alojado em quartos suspensos em árvores no meio da natureza em estado praticamente nativo.
O conceito tem ainda por base todo o respeito pelo ambiente, tendo sido projectado de modo a minimizar o impacto ambiental na zona onde está integrado, bem como respeitar a ecologia e sustentabilidade dessa área. A electricidade é fornecida a partir de energia hidroeléctrica e a iluminação é composta por sistemas LED de baixo consumo. Todos os produtos utilizados são amigos do ambiente.
Foi construído em 2010, planeando-se que em 2012 tivessem sido construídos 14 quartos. No entanto, existem apenas 5 disponíveis: Cabin, Mirrorcube, Bird’s Nest, Blue Cone e UFO.
O Cabin é uma espécie de cápsula, localizado numa plataforma no alto de uma colina de modo a ter uma visão espantosa do vale do rio Lule, aloja duas pessoas em cama de casal e possui um terraço. O Mirrorcube caracteriza-se pelas suas paredes espelhadas que fazem com que fique camuflado no meio das árvores, é dotado de 6 janelas com vista panorâmica, cama de casal, sala e terraço. O Bird’s Nest permite uma inclusão instantânea no meio ambiente, uma vez que se trata de um verdadeiro ninho, tem capacidade para 4 pessoas em dois quartos separados. O Blue Cone é uma estrutura em madeira mais convencional e simples, tem quatro camas, sótão e sala de estar. Finalmente, o UFO é uma construção admirável, a estrutura tem dois andares e pode albergar 4 pessoas em quartos separados.
Por enquanto fico só pelo sonho…

Baboons are curious creatures. And, thanks to their opposable thumbs, they are rather excellent at satiating that curiosity, no matter what impediments stand in their way. Apparently, that includes door handles.



Hyundai decided there was no better way to test the durability of its i30 hatchback (that's the Elantra GT here in the States) than to send it into Knowsley Safari Park, near Liverpool in the UK. Specifically, into the Baboon habitat.



As you'll see in the video after the break, the primates do their very best to rip the little hatchback to shreds, biting every surface, jumping up and down and from door to door and generally mucking about. How does the Hyundai cope with this kind of abuse? Scroll down below to find out yourself.
